Congratulations to Julia Barnett on her verbal commitment to play softball at Cal Poly. We asked Julia what was it about Cal Poly that made it her number one choice and does she have any tips for her teammates?
“It has always been my dream to get a top education while playing the sport I love at an elite level. I just love the atmosphere of Cal Poly and how supportive the people of San Luis Obispo are towards the Mustangs. The coaches are amazing, the weather is awesome, and the landscape is beautiful.
Some tips I have for my fellow teammates are to make sure you send email. If a school you like invites you to a camp, make sure to go. Don’t get caught up in who’s watching and just trust your ability on the field. Make sure to be respectful on and off the field, and most importantly just trust the recruiting process.
In my opinion one of the hardest parts was the pressure I put on myself to perform my best when being invited to camps by the schools. To overcome this just remember your fundamentals and have fun. (And hey, you might just hit a homer off of Lisa Fernandez!)
The best part of this experience was finding a school that would be the right fit for me and meeting coaches that expressed how much of an asset I would be for their program. (Getting school apparel was pretty fun too!!!)”
